Dear JBBP Families,
Thanks to parents, students and teachers for a
great first week of standardized testing. Please make sure our students
continue to be ready for these important exams and are at school on time.
We received confirmation this week from EPC that
Clarendon has reached all of our enrollment targets for the 2012-2013 school
year. By meeting our enrollment targets we have been able to increase our
preliminary budget allocation from the district. However, the state financial
crisis continues to present unprecedented challenges for all schools in
California including Clarendon. I am very appreciative to the JBBP parent
community for their continuing support during these very difficult times.
There are many activities happening between now
and the end of the year—mark your calendars now.

The Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival (Sakura Matsuri)
represents the beginning of spring and signifies our last JBBP fundraiser event
for the year. The Udon Booth is a fun, festive way to showcase our program to
the community and to meet other JBBP parents. Please click here for more

Cherry
Blossom Parade is this Weekend, Sunday, April 22
WHO & WHAT: All JBBP children, teachers, families and alumni
are invited to join in this annual family-friendly parade from City Hall to
Japantown to celebrate our community. JBBP kindergartners will again ride on a
float thanks to UPS and floatmaker Dave Thomas. 5th-graders will once again
carry the JBBP banner.
WHEN: Join us Sunday, April 22. Please join us and meet
between noon and 12:30pm. The parade starts at 1 p.m.
WHERE: We'll gather at City Hall on Polk Street
(near McAllister
Street). Look for the UPS truck and JBBP float.
SONG: We will be marching to an up-tempo version of “Lean On
Me.” Parents have visited classrooms to teach the children the song and simple
choreography.
WEAR: Children and adults are invited to wear yukata (summer
kimono) again this year. Please remember to
wear COMFORTABLE walking shoes, however. If your child would prefer to not
dress in yukata, please have him or her wear dark jeans or shorts and a white
T-shirt. Each child will get a red cap.
KINDERGARTEN
NOTE: Kindergarten teachers have asked that kindergartners NOT wear yukata
because of safety concerns getting on and off the float.
VOLUNTEERS: We need more volunteers. Volunteers will walk
alongside the children as we march to Japantown and keep the kids hydrated
with squirts of water. Volunteers will also collect
the hats and small flags after the parade. We also need more yukata
dressers to make sure the children are wearing the yukata

Arts & Science Day Scheduled: Friday, May 4th
Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered for Community
Arts & Science Day on Friday, May 4th. We have a fabulous line-up of fun
and educational workshops led by parents and outside guests, and the much
anticipated Great Egg Drop is less than a month away!
Haven't volunteered to be a part of it yet? Sign up now! We still
need volunteers for the following areas:

kindergarteners and 1st graders

Adoptive Family Group
We are a small group of adoptive parents at
Clarendon who know there must be many more of us out there! Wouldn't it be
great to know each other, have our kids know who else is out there, be able to
meet, socialize, share resources and experiences and decide whether/how often
and when we'd like to get together again? If you, or any other adoptive family
you know at Clarendon, Second Community or JBBP (please help us spread the

Japanese Music Class “Ichi Ni San”
• Join us every Wednesday
from 11am to noon at Seesaw (600, Octavia SF)
• This music class is
designed for children 1-4 years of age
• We'll explore nature,
colors, numbers, feelings and more through fun songs, and playing on the
guitar, recorder, trumpet and percussion instruments
• Teacher Junko will lead
as we move our bodies learning about rhythm and music in Japanese
• Prior exposure to
Japanese is not required—the class is led in both Japanese and English
• Tuition for the 4 class-series is $100;
Drop-in $30
• Pre-registration is

Kidz
Musical Theater + Film Project for Japan!
If we had an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear explosion, how would
we feel, what should we do? This collaborative learning project was developed
as a way to find an expression for what happened in Japan and how we would deal
with a similar event on the west coast of the United States.
• 6 weeks of classes (once
a week) in acting, voice, music, dance, writing and filmmaking, culminating in
a student created film based on student and teacher collaboration
• Each class will have
basic theater exercises, a guest teacher, and the creation and rehearsal of a
final film
• Teachers will guide
students in forms of expression that can be used in the final film
• Students and teachers
will shoot the final project
• We will send the final
product to kids in Japan to show our support

Lost
& Found
Please note that Lost and Found will be cleared out again next
month on Friday, 5/18. All unlabeled items will be donated to charity or
discarded. We have two shelves full of jackets, sweaters, hats, lunch bags,
water bottles, Tupperware, books, etc. Please come by the Lost the Found, which
is located outside of Room 6 before Friday, 5/18. Thank you.

JBBPファミリーの皆さん、
STARテストの第1週目、父兄、生徒、先生方に心より感謝しています。生徒たちが十分に休息し、遅れずに登校するよう引き続きご協力ください。
今週EPC(学校区の入学処理センター)より連絡があり、来年度のクラレンドンの席が全て埋まりました。学校区から割り当てられる予算を最大限に活用するための目標に達しました。しかし州の財政危機の影響で、クラレンドンの予算作成も前例のない厳しい状況にあります。この困難な状況下で、JBBPコミュニティーが一丸となって支援してくださることに心より感謝しています。
これから今学期終了までに、たくさんの行事があります。見逃さないように、ぜひカレンダーに印を付けてください。

北米カリフォルニア桜祭りは、春の訪れと今年度最後のJBBPのファンドレイザーの開催を意味する大イベントです。うどんブースはとっても楽しく、かつ私たちのプログラムをコミュニティに紹介したり、他のクラレンドンのご家族にあったりするのに最高の機会です。詳細はこちらをご覧ください。

桜祭りパレードは今週です!（４月２２日、日曜日）
JBBPの子供たち、ご家族、卒業生の皆様、毎年恒例の楽しいパレード (市役所から日本町) に参加してください。例年のように、キンダーの子供たちは、UPS提供、Dave Thomasさん作成の山車(フロート)に乗って参加します。今年も5年生がJBBPの横断幕を掲げます。
集合時間：パレード参加者並びにボランティアは12時30分集合、パレードは午後1時に出発します。
集合場所：市役所。 (Polk and McAllister
streets — UPSのトラックと JBBPのフロートが目印です)
歌：アップテンポに編曲した“Lean On Me”。父兄ボランティアがクラスをまわって、歌と振り付けを指導してくださいました。
服装：１－５年生には浴衣をお勧めします。くれぐれも歩きやすい靴を準備してください。浴衣でない場合は、濃い色のジーンズ(短パンも可)に白のTシャツを着用してください。お揃いの赤い帽子を当日配布します。先頭はJBBPの横断幕を持った5年生です。
キンダーの父兄の皆さん:フロートへの安全な昇降のため浴衣は着せないでください。担任の先生を通じて追って詳細をお知らせします。
ボランティア募集中：ボランティアが不足しています。子供たちと一緒に歩き、パレード中に水分補給をお手伝いしたり、パレード終了後に帽子と小旗を集めます。浴衣の着付けのお手伝いも必要です。

コミュニティー・アート＆サイエンスデイ（5月4日･金曜日）

日本語の音楽教室 “Ichi
Ni San”
• 毎週水曜日11時から12時にSeesawにて（600
Octavia)

• ギター、レコーダー、トランペット、パーカッションなどの楽器を使って音楽を楽しみながら、自然、色、数、感性なども経験します。
• じゅんこ先生のリードで日本の音楽とリズムに合わせて体を動かします。
• クラスは日本語と英語の両方で行われるので、日本語が分からなくても大丈夫です。
• ４回のクラスで$100もしくは、ドロップインは1回$30です。
• 早めの入会をお勧めします。

キッズミュージカルシアターと日本の映画プロジェクト
もし、地震、津波、核爆発が起こったら、私たちはどのように感じるでしょう？何をすべきでしょうか？この共同学習プロジェクトは、日本で起こった事、そしてアメリカ西海岸で同様の出来事にどのように対処できるかを見つける方法として展開されました。
• ６週間のクラス（週１回）演技、音声、音楽、ダンス、書き込みや映画製作、生徒と教師の共同製作に基づいて最高の映画を作り上げます。
• 各クラス基本的な演劇の練習、ゲストの先生、そして最終的なフィルムの作成とリハーサル。
• 教師が最終的な映画に使われる表現方法を指導。
• 生徒と教師が最終的なプロジェクトを撮影。
• 最終的に仕上がった作品は、私たちの日本を支える気持ちを込めて、日本の子供たちに送ります。
